In keeping with the theme of this blog and my bonus fun facts, I am late for an opportunity that I missed by about a week.
Bonus Fun Fact: I have been doing this bonus-fun-fact-blog-thing for 5 years now!
The first post on this blog, about seasonal Trumpeter Swan visitors, is dated November 30, 2018. At the time of that writing, my fun facts were only included as afterthoughts in emails sent to my coworkers. I remember I was driving to my office in Atlantic, Iowa that morning, and saw the swans in the crop fields between Highway 6 and the Nishnabotna River.
The website and blog format came later, in August of 2019. Shortly before that, I again wrote about swans, this time focusing on a trip that my mom and I made to watch a release of Trumpeter Swans at Lake Anita State Park in Anita, Iowa. I’m not sure there’s a strong connection between these big birds and my writing but, swans make me happy, so that’s how I’m choosing to remember.
Several years later, here we are: my sporadically writing fun facts to share, and you diligently reading. Happy belated swanniversary to us!
