Sand

Bonus Fun Fact: Sand is the third most exploited natural resource, after air and water.

Sand is highly accessible and, apparently, highly exploited. The vast majority of sand is used in the production of concrete and other construction materials. We spread it on our roads in the winter, bag it for weight, and keep it in our pockets for self defense (that’s a television reference). It’s also used in glassmaking and electronics manufacturing. Also, sand castles, obviously.

A highly exploited resource — miniature rocks! Close examination of sand shows a varied and diverse collection of small mineral fragments. (Dammit Marie, they’re not rocks, they’re minerals! — another television reference)
