Earth Day

Bonus Fun Fact: Today is Earth Day. It’s a day intended to raise awareness of conservation issues impacting our planet which, in turn, impact all of us.

Hopefully you already have plans for Earth Day but, if you should not, I implore you to go out of your way to do something good for the planet. Tonight or this weekend, do something. You can attend an Earth Day event (using the link below to find one locally), pick up litter, go on a hike and take a friend, or watch a nature documentary with your rugrats.

Lots of little actions can make big progress when they’re taken as a whole!

The famous ‘earthrise’ photo taken during the Apollo 8 mission that orbited the moon in 1968. For many, this photo put into perspective how unique and fragile our existence is. The first official Earth Day would follow in 1970. Photo courtesy of NASA.

Bonus Bonus Fun Fact: When Apollo 8 returned to Earth, it splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. The capsule was picked up by the USS Yorktown, a United States aircraft carrier. Aboard that ship was Dennis Andersen, my dad. He has pictures and everything.
