Today is my last day in my current job. Tomorrow, I start something new. I already talked about change and how it’s scary (and it certainly is). While I was writing that, it was all theoretical in my mind. Today, it feels very final. It’s been a great six years and I am proud of the things I’ve accomplished and glad to have worked with all of you. Tomorrow, I get to figure out new ways to do good things.
Given the date, I could write something about Valentine’s Day but, on the whole, I am not a big fan. It seems very artificial in terms of holidays. Instead, how about a metaphor?
Bonus Fun Fact: Sunsets and sunrises are red for a reason. When the sun is overhead at midday, there is a relatively thin layer of atmosphere for the light to penetrate, so you see the full spectrum of colors in sunlight. In the morning and evening however, the same light has to penetrate through much more atmosphere until it lands in your eyeballs. On the way through all that atmosphere, the light contacts particles of dust, smoke, moisture, and all the other things floating in the air. This causes some of the light, the short-waved blue light specifically, to be scattered elsewhere. This leaves the light on the red end of the spectrum to complete the dusk and dawn journey for you to see and be in awe of.
