I recently started taking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class for the fire department. There’s a lot of stuff to learn, but there was one fact from this week that simultaneously blew my mind and made me feel really dumb.
Bonus Fun Fact: The jawbone (or mandible) is the only movable bone in your skull. There are 22 total bones in the human skull, with all of them being fused in place except for one. The mandible is the only skull bone able to freely flap about as you chew your food or make your talking noises. It is joined to the temporal bone, and thereby the rest of the skull, by the temporomandibular joints. The remaining skull bones join together and become effectively one functional bone around the age of 2.
