I’ve noticed that one of our corgen, Tanis, has been scratching the ground more often after his various biological yard functions. This begged the question of why dogs do this in the first place. Are they wiping their feet? Do they like flinging dirt, leaves, and possibly poo at my face while I’m bending down to bag up their biologicals? As with many things in life, my wife had the answer.
Bonus Fun Fact: Dogs have glands between their toes, and they paw and scratch at the ground to transfer scent to the area in question. They are saying to other creatures, “In case you couldn’t already tell by the smell, this is MY pee.” Our dogs haven’t been getting walked as much since the club foot incident, so now that they are more out and about in the neighborhood, I suspect they are trying to reclaim their territory. Silly corgs.
