Passed storms

In March I talked about storms, wall clouds, and hook echos. Yesterday, Iowa (and other Midwest states) were visited by another type of powerful storm — a derecho storm.

Bonus Fun Fact: Derecho storms are widespread storms that produce very high winds in straight line patterns. On weather radar, they typically take the shape of a bow (like a bow and arrow). I tried to understand the meteorological magic that creates these storms, but I believe its beyond me. If you want to learn more about derecho storms, check out NOAA’s Facts About Derechos page.

Bonus Bonus Fun Fact: Derecho is pronounced deh-REY-cho and is Spanish for ‘straight.’
