Bonus Fun Fact: According to the American Skin Association, 85% of people are allergic to poison ivy, with 10-15% being extremely allergic. Previously, I always thought it was only something like 50% were allergic. Either way, if you’re one of the lucky few that doesn’t react to this oily evil, I envy you.
Myself, if I even look at a poison ivy leaf, I get a rash. I don’t think that falls in the category of extremely allergic (as that level of severity probably involves anaphylactic shock), but it does make enjoying nature more difficult. I was reminded of this fact while hiking in the woods this weekend, where I started seeing poison ivy popping up. With that in mind, next week I believe I’ll provide a guide to help you avoid this toxic plant, so you can better enjoy the great outdoors this summer.
