Bonus Fun Fact: The failure rate for New Year’s resolutions is approximately 80%, with most people losing their resolve by mid-February. But that’s not an excuse to not try! The problem is that making positive change is hard and it takes a lot of work to be successful. I want to encourage everyone to do something positive for themselves next year and here are some quick tips I’ve picked up for helping you accomplish that:
1) Be realistic – Don’t burden yourself with unrealistic goals. The farther out of reach your goal is, the more likely you will be to give up on it. Know yourself and set a goal that you can see yourself accomplishing.
2) Prioritize the change – It’s easy to procrastinate, especially when you’re putting off something that is tough or scary to do. If you want to have positive change, you have to prioritize it. Get up early, sacrifice some television time, or do whatever else you need to do to free yourself up to work towards your goal.
3) Failure is part of the game – If you’re failing, that means you’re pushing yourself. So keep trying! When you fail, try again, and finally succeed, it makes it all that much sweeter. Plus, you learn much, much more from failures than you do from successes.
4) Work towards your goal in small bits – Set small goals for yourself that step you along to your overarching goal. Working towards a big goal can be overwhelming and scary. Set small goals for yourself that break the big goal up into manageable bits and work on them individually.
5) Celebrate your accomplishments – Every small goal you accomplish is a victory. Celebrate it! Use those small accomplishments to gain momentum to accomplishing bigger goals!
I hope that wasn’t too much positivity for you all! But know that I do want each of you to be happy, do good things, and make your lives better. I want you to succeed! Please take these tips and try and apply them. And share your successes with me! I would love to hear them.
Have a great 2020!
