Bonus Fun Fact: Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday, and I look forward to it ever year. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln was responsible for making Thanksgiving an official holiday? The first Thanksgiving took place in 1621, but it actually wasn’t until 1863 that the 4th Thursday of November was designated to be an official day of giving thanks (and eating turkey). Over the intervening 242 years, Thanksgiving was only haphazardly observed, with some presidents and localities declaring it to be observed on some years, but forgetting it other years. When you are sitting at the Thanksgiving table over the holiday, be sure to give thanks to ol’ Honest Abe for making it happen.
